While Prime Day draws in millions and seasonal sales in May, July, and September are fun, when it comes to deals, there's no beating Black Friday. What once was a single day of sales has exploded like The Thing and absorbed the following weekend and Cyber Monday into a four-day free-for-all of deals, discounts, and doorbusters. Of course, Black Friday starts long, long before the turkey is brined, much less fried, sliced, served, and then turned into leftover sandwiches.

ANDROIDPOLICE VIDEO OF THE DAY

"Early Black Friday deals" have been underway since the beginning of October, but only now as we head into November are they starting to kick into high gear. From discounts on the latest and greatest Android phones to bundles and sales on every smart speaker you can imagine, we've rounded up the best Black Friday deals you can pounce on right now.

We've also got the history and insight you need to know what deals are worth pouncing on and which you should wait until November 25 for.

HP Chromebooks have this nasty little habit of not getting generations mentioned on their store listings, but Walmart's Early Access Black Friday Deals has this 11A G8 down to $79. The AMD A4 inside isn't the fastest chip on the block, but as a grade schooler's first laptop for homework and maybe some educational games, it'll fit the bill.

Not only is the Pixel 6a one of the best budget phones on the market, it's one of the best Android phones around period. It's almost as powerful as the new Pixel 7, so getting one for $350 without having to hassle with any trade-ins is worth taking advantage of.

Anker's Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro offer some of the best sound quality from a pair of wireless earbuds along with plenty of tip and wing options for even the most stubborn ear canals. With excellent ANC and decent call quality, better-than-average battery, and an app you'll actually want to use, the Liberty 3 Pros are phenomenal buds, and $100 ties its lowest price to date, so grab a pair and tune out those annoying relatives at Thanksgiving dinner.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday itself this year falls on November 25, with Cyber Monday following it on November 28, but Black Friday the shopping event is already well underway. Best Buy and Amazon already have hundreds of early Black Friday sales, with brands like Samsung kicking off deep discounts on everything from earbuds to 85-inch TVs.

While waiting for Black Friday can bring deeper discounts on some items, taking advantage of early deals can let you grab your kid's Christmas gifts before they sell out. While some devices may see deeper discounts the closer we get to November 25 — as some Samsung Galaxy phones did around Prime Day — far more items will be basically the same price all month, like this $100 Lenovo Chromebook deal.

Black Friday Android phone deals: What we're expecting

Not only is the Pixel 6a one of the best budget phones on the market, it's one of the best Android phones around period. It was down to $300, but Amazon still has it $100 off at $350 if you need a new phone today.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is $300 off at Samsung and Amazon and $400 off at Best Buy when you activate it at purchase, but Best Buy's trade-in values pale in comparison to the enhanced trade-in Samsung is offering on the tablet-cum-smartphone Z Fold 4 makes it hard to pass up. Samsung will even let you trade in two phones to help get the price as low as possible.

google-pixel-7-pro 7

Google's Pixel 7 line has only been out for two and a half weeks, but given how many Pixel 7 discounts we've seen already, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pixel 7 down to $500 or even $450 while the Pixel 7 Pro will likely drop to the $750 range. If you were hoping for a dirt-cheap Pixel 6, there are still a few discounts out there, but supply is dwindling as the phone is discontinued, so you'll need to check out the Pixel 6a, which is already down to $300 and is the best budget Android phone you can buy today.

Samsung has been quite liberal with deals on the Galaxy Z line and the S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra this year, with sporadic deals on the Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy S21 FE, too. If you're after the "baby" Galaxy S22, deals on that model have been much harder to come by outside carriers, but we're expecting to see $100 or more while the S22 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 4 could get anywhere from $250 to $400 off regardless of any enhanced trade-in deals.

OnePlus always has "mystery box" early Black Friday promotions running, but deep discounts on the OnePlus 10 series and the affordably excellent Nord N20 have been scarce. OnePlus's discounts during Prime Day and the Prime Early Access Sale weren't stupendous, but they were still worth considering, especially if you can put up with OnePlus's software issues over the last few years.

Black Friday tablet deals: What we're expecting

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE
samsung galaxy tab s7 fe with keyboard

Much like the S20 FE and S21 FE, the Tab S7 FE brings a larger screen, a slightly more affordable chipset, and a propensity for discounts. Deals for the Tab S7 FE are frequent, and right now you can get up to $160 off at Best Buy or up to $230 off at Samsung plus a guaranteed $200 trade-in value for any Galaxy device in any condition.

Tab S8 Ultra-21

While deals on iPads are pretty much a given every Black Friday, deals on good Android tablets are much more varied. This year we got a new generation of Galaxy S8 tablets, and that means this year's Samsung tablet sales are poised to be quite diverse. We've already seen Samsung and Best Buy slash prices on the Galaxy Tab S8 line and the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) in October sales, but we could see some truly spectacular deals on the Galaxy Tab S7 series, especially the S7 FE now that they're the "previous gen."

Lenovo's tablets are a bit of a mixed bag: the budget-minded models are already seeing their average discounts, but if you're wanting a P12 Pro, you'll likely have to wait until Black Friday itself — and even then, Samsung's deals will likely undercut it.

And rounding out the bottom of the budget barrel, Amazon debuted new Fire 7 and Fire HD 8 tablets this summer and fall, and while the new Fire 7 is seeing some okay discounts, most of the insta-buy Fire tablet deals have been for the previous generations (what supply of them is still left after Prime Early Access Sale last month), and we recommend avoided these because you shouldn't buy a tablet that uses micro-USB in 2022. (Actually, you shouldn't be buying anything that uses micro-USB in 2022.)

Black Friday wearable deals: What we're expecting

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

While the Galaxy Watch 5 will undoubtedly see some discounts later this month, the watch to buy today is the Galaxy Watch 4. It has the same processor and almost all the same sensors, and you can get it for $180 right now.

The latest Galaxy Watch may only have a $30 discount right now, but with a guaranteed $75 trade-in at Samsung — and up to $150 with a Galaxy Watch 3 or 4 — you can grab one for as little as $70. The tougher screen and longer battery life make a noticeable difference, especially if you're more active and will be tracking plenty of workouts.

google-pixel-watch-plant-prime

Let's start with the obvious: no, the Google Pixel Watch hasn't had a discount yet; yes, we're expecting to see one Black Friday in the $50 range to maybe $100 if Google is feeling generous. Even with that discount, it'd still be $250-$300 while the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 will likely drop to $230 or $200 — though the trade-in discount Samsung is offering right now can drop that price down to $150 with the trade-in of literally any smartwatch or down to $55-$75 with a Galaxy Watch 3, 4, or 4 Classic.

If you're looking to grab an Android smartwatch for a lower rate, you'll want to look to some older models. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic are last year's models — and the Watch 4 is getting harder and harder to find — but it's not rare to see them in the $180 to $150 range. They have the same processor as the Galaxy Watch 5, so they're just as powerful; they just don't have quite the battery life and the screen isn't quite as tough.

Other watches to keep an eye on will be the Fossil Gen 6 family — which includes the Razer Watch and Skagen Falster Gen 6 — as they're finally getting the Wear OS 3 update and are now a year old, so deeper discounts are all but guaranteed. Fitbit and Garmin will likely be running deals on most of its fitness trackers and smartwatches, but nothing will beat the few blessed hours when Amazon accidentally sold the new Fitbit Sense 2 for $80.

Black Friday audio deals: What we're expecting

Google Pixel Buds Pro

The Pixel Buds Pro debuted at the end of July, and while we've seen them $50 off before, I'm doubting Google will let the price drop much further between now and Black Friday. While the fit can feel a bit odd at first to some, they're quite comfortable and these buds have the best controls. They're missing LDAC, but hopefully, LC3 support expands.

With Samsung’s seamless connection to Galaxy products, active noise cancelation, and updated ability to support 360 audio, the Galaxy Buds 2 give users a versatile set of features to play with. More importantly, the Buds 2 offer a triple-mic array on each earbud, making it noticeably better for voice calls. While the other colorways are down to $120, the Lavendar Buds 2 are $90 — and look the best, too.

Earbuds get sweet deals all year long, so it's not really a question of if but rather when. Many popular models like the Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 have already been discounted down to $100, while premium models like the Pixel Buds Pro have gotten consistent discounts as well.

Of course, the most popular premium models tend to have one-day flash sales rather than weeks-long discounts. We've seen the Sony WF-1000XM4 drop from $280 to $180 for mere hours before popping right back up to list price, and I'm just waiting for it to reappear, as "deals" on the XM4s have usually only been $30-$50 off rather than $100.

Sony's already been discounting its headphones and Bluetooth speakers as well, but Bose's $250 deal on the QuietComfort 45 blew away the rest of the over-ear deals last week, but it's expired for now. As for speaker deals, I highly encourage you to wait until at least November 23, the best Bluetooth speaker deals are almost always saved for Black Friday weekend itself.

Black Friday Chromebook deals: What we're expecting

HP Chromebooks have this nasty little habit of not getting generations mentioned on their store listings, but Walmart's Early Access Black Friday Deals has this 11A G8 down to $79. HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook

One of the best Chromebooks money can buy, the HP Elite Dragonfly is what you should buy if you miss the Pixelbook but want something newer, faster, and Steam-capable now that Steam on Chrome has moved to Beta channel. Use the coupon code CHROME20 to take 20% off, which can lead to up to $600 in savings. (Yeah, it's pricey, but it's amazing.)

Split Screening Chrome on the HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook

Chromebook deals have already been out in force from the unbeatable $99 Lenovo Flex 3 to premium models like the ASUS Spin CX5, but most of the early deals have sold out, and we're waiting on new ones. HP's 20% off the HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook can easily knock $300-$600 off the spiritual successor of the OG Pixelbook with the coupon code Chrome20, but here's hoping HP knocks another $100-$250 off the Dragonfly's $1,200 starting price.

Lenovo's website has been cleaning house on its Chromebooks this fall, but models like Flex 5, Flex 3, and the Duet line have all seen regular discounts and ample supply. Even the ThinkPad C13 and C14 have seen some early deals, and I expect the older C13 model will sell out in the next few weeks.

Outside the Chromebook Spin CX5, ASUS's current Chromebook deals have mostly focused on older models like the C203, Flip 433, and Flip 434, which will stop getting updates in 2025 and 2026 respectively. Best Buy already sold out of most of its Flip C536 (aka the 2021 model of the CX5) models during clearance sales, but hopefully, more recent ASUS Chromebooks will see discounts as we approach the actual holiday.

Acer Chromebooks have seen ten kinds of deals, discounts, and clearance sales over the last three months, including $250 off the Acer Chromebook Spin 714, one of the best Chromebooks you can buy today. This has led to a number of Chromebooks we expected to see on sale this Black Friday selling out forever — such as the Acer Spin 713 (2021) — but there's still a fair few 2022 models that could be seeing their first significant deals this month.

Black Friday smart home deals: What we're expecting

Amazon Echo (4th Gen)

The regular Echo has largely fallen into the shadow of the Echo Dot and Echo Show series, but the Echo (4th Gen) is half off ahead of Black Friday and offers not only richer sound quality but a built-in Zigbee hub for smart home control.

amazon-smart-home-hero-1

From Google's Nest smart speakers to Philips Hue light bulbs to TP Kasa smart plugs and beyond, just about every smart home device you can imagine is already seeing some kind of discount — except for the latest Nest Wired Doorbell and Nest Wifi Pro, which came out last month. Amazon's already got the Echo down to half off, and we fully expect the new 5th Gen Echo Dot to see a similar discount now that the 4th Gen is discontinued and sold out.

For smart light brands like Philips Hue, Govee, and more, as well as smart plugs and connected devices like smart air purifiers and smart coffee makers, we recommend waiting until Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, as these deals might get sweeter the closer to December we creep. The one exemption here was Google Store's 2 Nest Audio for $90; it was too good to pass up, but it's been turned back off for now.
